Like winning Album Of The Year on the 53rd Grammys wasn’t enough for Canadian musicians Win and Will Butler, Richard Reed Parry and others, Arcade Fire is set to tour the the U.S. with Local Natives, Explosions in the Sky, The National, and OkkervilRiver. After that, they head to Europe to play mass amounts of festivals, then Canada with a final show with U2. Check the dates out below. (not included with openers, sorry)
The two latest Wavves tracks TV Luv Song and Bug are more ‘mature’ than the lofi sound of Wavvves and a bit more intelligent lyrics (thats what probation from weed does to you). Bug is about a person who is ‘no fun’ and TV Luv Song is about wasting your time. Both tracks have that new pop sound from King Of The Beach. Check them out.

On Friday February 11 general admission tickets will be on sale via ticketmaster. On the official website of LCD Soundsystem they wrote “we are retiring from the game..” and ” but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours–playing stuff we’ve never played before”. The first “official” single on R.E.M.’s upcoming album Collapse Into Now( out March 8th), features the signature R.E.M. ‘Orange Crush’ sound and a very Hi-fi sound, also with a lo-fi guitar and vocal. R.E.M. has always been a some sort of pop-rock act, or recently been heading down that road, and you can defiantly hear that through out “Mine Smells Like Honey”. You can purchase to the song here
Gabriel Duquette of the popular indie rock band from Syracuse: Ra Ra Riot, has announced his departure from the band via the news column of their website. The band states he will be missed and the last performance with Duquette will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and for the upcoming tour dates with GIVERS, Duquette will be replaced by Kenny Bernard. Duquette shares brief band memories and gives a small promotion to the readers for his solo career. Check out all the tags below.
Following the popular Summer Is Forever split EP with Best Coast comes ‘Mutant’ (B-side for Japanese pressing of King Of The Beach) the lofi sound from their second record, Wavvves with that new King Of The Beach open chord strum and loud aggressive drums (played by Cooper). Williams posted the song to his blog with more to come perhaps. Williams also states that the “punky attitude would have made a somewhat perfect fit to King Of The Beach”, which can be heard throughout the song. You can check out the song and the blog below.
The indie folk rock group based out of Portland, Oregon will be releasing their 6th studio album entitled The King Is Dead on January 18th, 2011. The Decemberists spent the previous week of their album release date in Sirius XMU’s studio, talking and sharing memories of the bands and personal moments of the past, also playing tunes from their upcoming album. Capitol Records signed The Decemberists in early 2006 to the release The Crane Wife, and Capitol is still the main label on The Decemberists today. The album starts with a harmonic intro and solid drums and a clean acoustic guitar on “Don’t Carry It All”, with a slow fiddle as well. The record continues with the signature 12 string guitar that Meloy strums and the harmonizing back-up vocals and accordion playing of Conlee. Very Texan slide guitars can be heard for very brief moments and quietly toned down on songs like “Rise To Me” and “Dear Avery”. Accordion plays through rhyming verses in “Rox In The Box” and the aggressive beats of “This Is Why We Fight”. I think the Decemberists are trying their luck with a more of a indie hipster insecurity club crowd than the intelligent folk musicians and the many hipsters that already do enjoy their music. You can hear that on songs like “January Hymn”, and “June Hymn” and also on “This Is Why We Fight. When listening to the final seconds of “This Is Why We Fight” you can get a country-blues vibe as well as “Dear Avery”; the closing track. The album will be released on Tuesday, January, 18th, 2011 via Capitol Records, and I highly suggest you pre-order and purchase this album here http://www.decemberists.com/ and view the tracklist below.
I’m starting a ‘song replay weekend pick’ type thing were I pick the most played song of the week by me and post it. This week is Not In Love ft. Robert Smith- Crystal Castles.
Vocalist Alison Mosshart and multi-instrumentalist Jamie Hincehave been busy with other projects since Midnight Boom in 2008. But they re-united for their fourth studio release Blood Pressures which is said to be released on April 5th 2011, but a day earlier for everyone not in the U.S. via Domino Records. From the post of Menomena’s official website, keyboard/guitar/vocalist/writer Brent Knopf of Menomena has left the band to focus his musical attention towards his other project Romona Falls. Knopf will be replaced by Paul Alcott for Menomena’s upcoming tour dates including appearances at the popular SXSW, Laneway, and Coachella music festivals. Check out their tour dates below.
Food Network’s “Ace Of Cakes” does a Pavement Cake.
The hit reality Food Network program Ace Of Cakes will be showing a cake made for the hit indie rock sensation Pavement, which will be aired on January 20th at 10p.m. eastern. Sadly, the Food Network will be canceling Ace Of Cakes, so the episode featuring Pavement will be one of their last shows.

I say the music video of the busy year 2010 goes to Terrible Love by The National. The director Tom Berninger decieded to make the video several shots of their tour across America over this past summer of 2010. The beginning shows a ‘drunk’ Matt Berninger drinking what looked to be white wine, and ‘messing around’ with one of the Dessners as he played a piano back-stage. It shows some time off from tour, like members looking through comic shops, going to bowl in a bowling alley, and playing at a speach for current president Barack Obama. Watch “Terrible Love” performed by The National and directed by Tom Berninger here: http://bit.ly/ePxr4v
